Media and Globalization - 1909 Words

The Media and Globalization Globalization contains many factors, which can be studied in a wide range of ways. It can be analyzed on a macro level or a micro level, with many contributors. Terhi Rantanen, in her book The Media and Globalization, explores the media as a contributor to globalization. While explaining the many level media’s impact is seen, she chooses to show the micro level of its impacts in relation to globalization. She explains several factors of the role of media such as the transformation of the media, time and space, nationalism, de-territorialization and also through several scapes. The scapes that I will be touching on, which are the micro level of the analysis, are ethnoscapes, financescapes, mediascapes and†¦show more content†¦Media has a great impact on people’s lives; it brings people together and forms a common bond, adding to globalization. The sharing of news through television, radio, and newspapers creates a common experie nce for everyone who sees it. An example of this on a micro level is when demonstrators take to the streets after seeing acts of violence on television and all share in the same feelings of fighting for the cause. This also shows how space is taken away through media; it creates an instant connection with the outside world. One major media that does this is the Internet. Through the Internet anyone can gain information or images from anywhere. Utilizing these benefits of the media can be seen on a more micro level, such as using the Internet and phone to keep in touch with family. This keeps a connection and sense of belonging to a specific place without having to physically be there. The Finnish family uses the Internet to keep in touch with each other and to stay connected to the community of Finnish people. There are so many communities brought together through media that the sense of physical space has been transformed into something new. Expanding upon this idea of the transformation of people and their interactions through media, national identity and de-territorialization must be discussed. National identity is traditionally seen as the connection people have who live inShow MoreRelatedGlobalization, Globalisation, And Media Related Globalization1869 Words   |  8 PagesA global society is where the whole world is seen as one international society, instead of separate nation states, as a result of globalization. Fidel Castro free essay sample

Fidel Castro â€Å"Analyse the involvement of Fidel Castro in creating a Revolutionary Cuba† Fidel Castro was born on August 13, 1926, near his father‘s farm in Biran, in southeast Cuba. Castro’s father was an immigrant from Spain, who had provided for the family through sugarcane farming. Castro spent most of his younger years on his family farm, but spent most of his childhood in catholic boarding schools. In 1950, Castro graduated from law school and began practicing law. Keeping a strong interest in politics, Castro became a candidate for a seat in Cuba’s House of Representatives during the election of June 1952. However before the election was held, Batista toppled the previous government, cancelling the election. From the start of Batista’s rule, Castro fought against him in any means possible. To start, he took Batista to the courts and tried to out-do him legally. However, when that failed, he began to organize an underground group of rebels. Castro, his brother Raul, and a group of about 160 armed men attacked the second largest military base in Cuba. They were confronted with hundreds of trained soldiers and there was little chance that the attack could have succeeded. Sixty of Castros men were killed, Castro and Raul were captured and given a trial. At this trial Castro delivered his famous speech â€Å"History Will Absolve Me†. His speech ended: â€Å"Condemn me. It does not matter. History will absolve me,† Castro was sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment. He was releases two years later in May 1955. He then went into exile in Mexico for a year, where he trained and assembled the 26th of July Movement. He gained support from Che Guevara, a Marxist Militant from Argentinia. On December 2nd, 1956, Castro and his men returned to Cuba with the intention of starting a revolution. They were met by heavy Batista defenses and nearly everyone on the movement was killed, with a handful escaping, including Castro, Raul and Che Guevara. For the next two years Castro continued guerilla attacks and succeeded in gaining large numbers of volunteers. Using guerilla warfare tactics, Castro and his supporters attacked Batista’s forces, overtaking town after town. Batista quickly lost popular support and suffered numerous defeats. The rebel forces began to rely on the peasants for support. Batista took to ruthlessly attacking pro-Castro towns, which only stirred up more support for the rebel leader. A movement in the cities began as well. Frank Pais, whom Castro left in charge whist he was in exile, began to attack the Batista government in various ways. A group of students not associated with Castro, unsuccessfully led an armed assault on the Presidential Palace. On May 24th, 1958, Batista launched operation Verano. With seventeen battalions, tanks, planes and ships, they planned to enter the Sierra Maestra and force a showdown with Castro’s rebels. Though greatly outnumbered, the rebels repeatedly inflicted heavy casualties on the army and drove them back. Armed forces commanded by Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Raul Castro, Camilo Cienfuegos, and others, took on army units many times their size. Batistas army was unprepared for the fighting conditions and the guerilla style of warfare. Eventually Batista decided the situation was hopeless. His generals had arrived at the same conclusion, and were glad when Batista decided to give up the fight. Batista fled to Spain, by then having amassed a fortune of $300 million through bribery and embezzlement. The rebel forces of Fidel Castro had moved swiftly to seize power throughout the island. At the age of 32, Castro had successfully masterminded a classic guerilla campaign from his headquarters in the Sierra Maestra and ousted Batista. Law Professor Jose Miro Cardona created a new government with himself as Prime Minister and Manuel Urrutia Lleo as president on January 5. The United States officially recognized the new government two days later. Castro himself arrived in Havana to cheering crowds and assumed the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on January 8. On January 8, 1959, Castro’s army rolled victoriously into Havana and would shortly thereafter declare that â€Å"power does not interest me, and I will not take it. † As news of the fall of Batista’s government spread, the crowds poured into the streets. The black and red flag of July 26th Movement waved on automobiles and buildings. The atmosphere was chaotic. Fidel Castro sought to oust liberals and democrats, such as Jose Miro Caardona and Manuel Urrutia Lleo. In February professor Jose Miro Cardona had to resign because of Castro’s attacks. On February 16, 1959, Castro was sworn in as Prime Minister of Cuba. Professor Miro soon went into exile in the United States and would later participate in the Bay of Pigs invasion against Castro’s form of government. President Manuel Urritia Lleo wanted to restore elections, but Castro opposed free elections. Castro’s slogan was â€Å"Revolution first, elections later† Castro started to organize attacks on President Manuel Urrutia Lleo. Castro himself resigned as Prime Minister of Cuba and later that day appeared on television to deliver a lengthy denouncement of Urrutia â€Å"complicated† government, and that his â€Å"fevered anti-communism† was having a detrimental effect. Castro’s sentiments received widespread support as organized crowds surrounded the presidential palace demanding Urrutia’s resignation, which was duly received. On July 23, Castro resumed his position as premier and appointed Osvaldo Dorticos as the new president. Castro had used his degree in law and his manipulation skills to overtake Cuba and transform his country into the first communist state in the Western Hemisphere. Roosevelt, Theodore (1858-1919), 26th President Of The United States (

Roosevelt, Theodore (1858-1919), 26th president of the United States (1901-09), the first president to exploit the public dimensions of his office in an age of mass communications, a reform leader at home and a skilled diplomat abroad. In his lifetime Roosevelt became a personal model, particularly for the country's youth, in a way that no public figure has matched. He was one of the most popular presidents in American history. The son of a wealthy, socially prominent merchant, Roosevelt was born in New York City on October 27, 1858. He was educated by private tutors and studied at Harvard University, graduating in 1880 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the most prestigious social clubs. Ill health marred his boyhood, and he suffered poor eyesight, attacks of asthma, and nervous digestion, before teenage body-building efforts transformed him into a strong, vigorous young man. After his father's sudden death in 1878, Roosevelt forsook scientific ambitions, developed political interests, and became engaged to Alice Lee of Boston, whom he married in 1880. Alice Roosevelt died in 1884, just after the birth of their only child. Their daughter, also named Alice, as Alice Roosevelt Longworth became a well-known Washington personality in later years. In 1886 Roosevelt married Edith Carow of New York, who became his most valued adviser. They had a daughter and four sons, the oldest of whom, Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., was a decorated hero in the two world wars. Early Political Career After graduation from college, Roosevelt entered politics and abandoned the study of law when, as a Republican, he was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1881. He attracted immediate attention in the press with his upper-class background, colorful personality, and bold independence. In 1884, after serving three years in the Assembly, he left politics briefly, both from grief at the death of his wife and because he had alienated the reform wing of his party that year by supporting James G. Blaine for the presidency. Roosevelt spent the next two years ranching and hunting in the Dakota Territory, which began his identification with the Wild West. He continued to write histories, biographies, and magazine articles, producing more than a dozen books between 1880 and 1900. Back in politics in 1886, he ran unsuccessfully for mayor of New York City, campaigned for the national Republican ticket in 1888, and served as Civil Service commissioner in Washington, D.C., from 1889 to 1895. From 1895 to 1897, Roosevelt renewed political ties and enhanced his fame with his energetic, reform-minded service as New York City's police commissioner. After campaigning for his party's national ticket again in 1896, he became assistant secretary of the navy and worked to expand and modernize the navy and get the United States into war with Spain over Cuba. War Hero and Vice President The Spanish-American War made Roosevelt a nationally known figure. His volunteer cavalry regiment, which included both cowboys and aristocrats like himself, was dubbed the Rough Riders and received extensive press coverage. Their charge at the Battle of San Juan Hill in Cuba (July 1898) was the most celebrated exploit of the war. Roosevelt became a popular hero overnight, and his favorite nickname for the rest of his life was the Colonel. He reaped a swift political reward when his party's New York boss, Senator Thomas C. Platt, chose him to run for governor in the face of scandals that threatened a Republican defeat. Enormous crowds greeted the candidate wherever he appeared in the 1898 campaign, and he carried his ticket to a narrow victory. Those crowds and similar outpourings when Roosevelt traveled west to a Rough Riders' reunion in 1899 propelled him toward the Republican vice-presidential nomination as William McKinley's running mate in 1900. Also favoring his nomination was S enator Platt's desire to get him out of New York. Roosevelt was an activist, independent governor, who did not submit to the Republican organization; he responded to popular disquiet over big business and showed his own concern over conservation of natural resources. Gracefully although unwillingly submitting to the vice-presidential draft, Roosevelt demonstrated his energy and popularity again in the 1900 campaign, as he made whirlwind tours appealing to patriotic memories of the war. He had little to

Mental Health Essays

Mental Health Essays Mental Health Paper Mental Health Paper Introduction In this essay, the author will discuss the mental health issues among the youths. The mental problems as it relate to the general health and also discuss the mental health promotions. The author will then discuss on how changes in lifestyle could improve mental health. Finally, it worth’s mentioning that there are some professional help out there for people experiencing mental problems. Mental illness can be defined as the experiencing of severe and distressing psychological symptoms to the extent that normal functioning is impaired, and one needed some form of help in order to recover, Anthony (1999). Some of the symptoms include anxiety, depressed mood, obsessional thinking, delusions and hallucinations. WHO described mental health as â€Å" a state of well-being in which the individual realises his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community†, WHO (2004). The understanding of mental health includes the awareness that mental health is broader than an absence of mental disorders, that poor mental health affects our ability to cope with and manage our lives, (Department of health and children 2006). This means that mental health and mental well-being are part of everyday life. In the area of mental health promotion, the national health promotion strategy states that† mental health is equally as important as physical health to the overall well-being of a person† and set out the strategic aim of promoting positive mental health and contributing to a reduction in the percentage of the population experiencing poor mental health. (The National health promotion Strategy, 2000-2005). Some of the strategies include; focusing on enhancement of well-being rather than illness, identifying the whole population as a target group. The author will present their argument in support of this statement, taking into account any relevant counter-arguments. As a student mental health nurse, to do otherwise would seriously affect their ability to care for patients of involuntary status or receiving coercive treatment, and create a potentially irresolvable ethical dilemma. Involuntary inpatient admission, and other forms of coercive treatment given to patients, is justified where the person is considered to be a risk to themselves or others. It is considered to be a paternalistic act of last resort where the person is seen as not possessing the competence to manage their own affairs, or where they present the possibility of harming others. Critics will argue that behaving in this matter undermines a persons’ autonomy. The problem with such highly principled statements is that they tend to overestimate the degree of autonomy available to people. Free will itself is, to a greater or lesser degree, a fantasy we indulge ourselves in. We, each of us, are a product of our environment and upbringing and our autonomy will always be limited as a consequence (Baggini and Fosl 2007). As paternalism towards children is justified due to their lack of autonomy, why not towards adults whose autonomy is limited as a result of acute mental illness? The author would agree with this assertion. Mill (2007) supported this, stating that such actions ultimately increase a persons’ autonomy and prevent any further decline. The wording of the statement, pitting needs versus needs, subscribes to the utilitarian school of thought in ethics, that of obtaining the greatest good for the greatest number. Subscribers to this school would argue that individual freedoms may be restricted if doing so protects a majority. Pure utilitarianism is problematic in that it could be used to justify gross breaches of individuals’ rights in pursuit of the â€Å"greater good†, lending weight to the slippery slope argument often espoused by critics. What constitutes an appropriate level of risk to justify coercive treatment? How great must the level of disturbance to others be? The author believes that utilitarianism has its’ place. The slippery slope argument would perhaps have some credence if such actions could be taken without justification, however in Ireland we have both the Mental Health Act (Department of Health and Children 2001) and the Mental Health Commission to safeguard service users’ rights and autonomy as far as is possible and to ensure that healthcare professionals are accountable for such actions. Also, use of such guidelines ensures that when coercive treatment is deemed necessary, it is not overt and must be justifiable (O’ Brien and Golding 2003). While it is our ethical duty to ensure that our service users receive justice, at times a sacrifice of justice may be required in order to ensure the greatest good for the community. It is thus important that all healthcare workers in the Mental Health setting foster a highly developed code of personal ethics in relation to such situations. We must also consider how this impacts on the principles of beneficence and non-maleficence. Some would say that by limiting a persons’ liberty, mental health services are harming them. Perhaps the person would resolve their difficulties without needing to resort to such drastic measures? However, these steps are only taken in cases where the person is believed, following assessment under strict criteria, to be a risk to themselves or others and incapable of seeing to their affairs. Again, following consequentalist theory, the author believes that it is outcomes that truly matter (Dooley and McCarthy 2005). What of the suicidal person that kills themselves? The paranoid schizophrenic that kills their neighbour, or the manic individual that spends all their life savings in a week? While this happens in a very small percentage of cases, the author believes that involuntary admission and coercive treatment are justified if even one such event is prevented. Furthermore, we must consider the effects these events have on how mental illness is perceived by the wider community, and the damaging effects of the public stigma arising from them. While hospitalisation carries its’ own stigma, negative portrayals of a small number of incidents involving people diagnosed with mental illnesses by the media causes far more damage and can lead to people being ostracised by their community, damaging support networks that may otherwise help them in staying well. It is also the authors’ experience that in many cases, a persons’ community are unaware that they have been admitted for inpatient care, whether voluntary or involuntary. In conclusion, the author believes that they have stated why they believe coercive treatment may be justified at times to protect both patients and their communities. They have shown their belief that the existence and use of strict criteria for such treatment ensures that it is not overused or abused. They have shown that such treatment follows utilitarian principles, and stated their belief that it ultimately helps improve outcomes for patients in our care, and helps protect others from any consequences of actions the person may have taken. They have shown that they do not believe that coercive treatment necessarily compromises a patients’ right to be treated with beneficence and non-maleficence, because the outcome is arguably better than would have been the case without such intervention. Finally, this argument underscores the importance of maintaining and adhering to a strong ethical code. Given the freedom to practice we are permitted in Mental Health services, we owe both the public and our patients no less.

Private School Application Deadlines

Private School Application Deadlines Attending private school requires a formal application, a process that can actually take months to complete. Heres an application process timeline that takes you through all the components of applying to private school. Its important to remember that this is a guideline, and you always need to work directly with the schools youre applying to in order to make sure that your application is complete and submitted on time.   July/August The summer is a great time to start researching private schools and deciding where you want to apply. If youre uncertain about the type of school you want to attend, start by considering day schools or boarding schools. Consider whether you want to stay close to home. Knowing the answer will set you off on a great start for applying. If youre focusing on day schools, you are going to have a more limited selection of schools to apply to than if youre launching a nation-wide (or even global) search for a boarding school. Using a handy Private School Spreadsheet, like this one, can help you organize your search.   September This is a great time to begin inquiring at the schools youre interested in. Submitting an inquiry, most often done online, is a great way to get additional information on schools and start talking to an admission officer. Dont worry- inquiring doesnt mean you have to apply. This is your chance to learn more and decide if the schools on your list are the right fit for you.   This is also a good time to start thinking about the standardized tests that  may be required for applying to private schools, such as the SSAT. You need to book your testing date in advance of the admission deadlines, so it is a great idea to book it now so you dont forget, even if you arent going to take it for another month or two. If possible, schedule the test for October or November rather than waiting until closer to the application deadlines. That way, if you dont do as well as you had hoped when you take the test the first time, booking it early means you have enough time to take it again before the winter deadlines.   October This month is typically when schools start offering Open House events, which can give you a chance to visit the school, sit in on classes, and more. Open  Houses give a glimpse into daily life at the school. If you cant make an Open House, book a private visit to the school during which youll likely receive a campus tour, often led by a student, and meet with an admission officer to conduct your admissions interview. Before you go to your campus tour and interview, be sure to prepare and think about the first impression youre going to make on the school. Its important to be prepared to answer questions and ask them during your interview.   If you didnt already book the SSAT, be sure to do so now before you forget.   As youre talking to the schools youre considering, ask if they offer rolling admission or have strict application deadlines, and see if they accept the standard application. Not all schools accept these general applications, so its important to know in advance if youre going to need to complete multiple forms to apply.   November November is a great month to really start working on your official application. Theres a questionnaire for students to complete, an essay you need to write, a portion for parents to fill out, transcript requests, and teacher recommendations. Be sure to ask your school and your teachers in advance for their portions of the application and give them plenty of time to complete them.   The student application and admission essay are both a great opportunity for you to showcase your writing skills and to show why youre a great candidate for the school. Make sure you take your time and work hard on these portions.   Parents also need to spend time on their sections, and be sure to include detail in their answers.   December This is the time of year that private schools start getting really busy with applications, so getting yours in early can ease some of your worry as deadlines start looming. As you start wrapping up the year, its also time to think about whether you will be applying for  financial aid. Some schools even have application deadlines in December, so make sure youre clear on what the schools require and when. This is typically your last chance to book an appointment for a visit and interview before the deadlines. Be sure to do so before the winter break. January/February Most private schools, especially independent schools (whats the difference? find out), have application deadlines in either January or February. That means all components of your application, including any financial aid applications, need to be complete. Financial aid is limited, and applicants in the first round of admission decisions are more likely to receive funding than those families who wait to apply. Even if youre not sure if you qualify, you can still complete the application. Make sure to follow up with the school, either by phone call or by logging into your online admission portal, to check that all components of your application are complete, including any fees that need to be paid.   March This is the month when first-round applicants who made the January or February deadlines can expect to receive their admission decisions. A common date for notifications from independent schools in March 10, and students can often log into an online portal to receive a decision instantly rather than having to wait for something to come in the mail. Typically students will be accepted, denied admission, or waitlisted when they hear back. If you dont hear back, follow up with the school quickly to see if there was an issue with your application or if something got lost in the mail.    April Private schools typically allow families a month to consider their options - many students apply to several schools, and if they are lucky enough to be accepted at more than one school, they may need to compare schools and decide where to enroll. April 10 is a fairly standard deadline for independent schools to require families to enroll or decline offers of admission, but be sure to check with your admission office to find out for certain. If you are accepted to a school and are trying to make your decision on where to go, you may discover that schools are inviting you to an event known as Revisit Day or Welcome Day. This is another chance to return to the school and get an idea of what life is like there to help you make your decision on whether or not you can see yourself that the school.   Students who received waitlisted notifications in March may start hearing back from schools as early as April as to whether or not any spaces have opened up as a result of other candidates deciding to decline offers of admission in favor of another school. Note that all students who were waitlisted will hear back in April; some waitlists can extend into the summer even. Whether you are accepted or waitlisted, as soon as you decide to enroll at one school, its crucial that you notify the others of your decision not to attend. May By now, hopefully, you have chosen your school and completed your enrollment agreement. Congratulations! Revisit Days can also take place in May, so dont worry if there wasnt one in April. Depending on the school, May can be a quiet month for newly enrolled students, as its the end of the year for current students. With graduation ceremonies, award events, and end of year festivities, schools can be rather busy. However, some schools will start sending you information about the coming year and the forms youll need to complete over the summer.   June/July Over the summer, you typically will receive a number of forms to complete, including health forms, class selections, dorm surveys (if youre going to a boarding school), and more. Make sure to pay attention to the dates and deadlines, as some forms are required by law in order for you to start school in the fall. Showing up without them can be a major problem. Dont wait until the last minute. Youll likely also have summer reading and potentially worksheets and other assignments to complete for classes. There may also be a list of supplies you need, including technology and books, so make sure to get your back to school shopping done early. If youre heading to boarding school, its important to not only pay attention to what you need to bring, but also what you shouldnt bring to boarding school.   August Its time to finish up your summer assignments and back to school shopping, because many private schools start pre-season practices for students playing varsity sports in August, and some schools event start classes in August.

The French Revolution and Modern French Socialism Essay Example for Free

The French Revolution and Modern French Socialism Essay The French Revolution Introduction How does the declaration of the rights of man and the citizen defy the political and social convection of absolutism and reflect enlightenment thinking as the basis for a new French society            The passing of the declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen in 1789 was the most profound thing that had a significant effect on the oppressed class. Before the declaration of The Righs of Man and Citizen, France was divided into a rigid oppressive social class, the clergy, the nobility and the peasants. The unequal class created the environment for the oppressed peoples to fight for their sovereignty, fraternity and equality. The outbreak of the French revolution in 1789 also made people from the St. Domingue to fight for their freedom, which broughtabout conflict between the various classes. The French revolution decreed equal rights to all citizens. Prior to the declaration of the rights of man and citizens, conflict arose between the people of color of St. Dominge and the whites (Goodwin, 219).            The incorporation of the writings of enlightenment thinkers such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Montesquieu were the guiding principles of the rights of man and citizen. According to Rousseau, the social contract between the ruled and the rules required rulers to obey the general will of the people, thus, if the rulers failed to do so, the people had the right to overthrow them. These ideas declared that the sovereignty of the people is located in them and nobody could exercise power over them, unless allowed by them. Such enlightenment made the people to have the political authority over their nation. Moreover, the declaration proclaimed gave the people power to remain free and acquire equal rights and protect the rights of the Frenchmen.            Prior to the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, a new French social contract was created whereby the constitution of 1791 was invalidated by progressive tension between the king and the deputies. The new French social contract changed the political and social contract systems to that of the sovereignty where people’s opinion had to be considered. The new French social contract that was created made the people who were divided about power to have conflict among themselves and the many elements of the people who felt themselves excluded such as women and the poor and whose status were not improved. As a matter of fact, Louis XVI was condemned to death and executed and the convections drew up a new constitution that reflected the enlightenment of thinkers such as Rousseaus concept of a social contract grounded on the general will (Goodwin, 231).            Moreover, the 1793 constitution reflected much on the enlightenment of Rousseau social contract held by the Jacobins. The imposition of this constitution in France generated a power struggle that resulted in the expulsion of more moderate divisions from the state and the concentration of power in Jacobian hands. The requirement of prosecuting the war against Europe joined Jacobian control, but competing interests and power conflicts remained. The deportment of the war, personal ambitions, and economic tensions all experimented the leadership of Jacobian so as to maintain the control and impose the version of the general will. It was all a counter check and violence against opponents so as to ensure the rights of man and citizen is maintained (S, 380). When reading the official indictment (formal charges) of Louis XVI, do you believe the National Convection is justified in condemning the king for reasonable treasonous actions? Or do these charges appear groundless?            Drawing from article 2 of the 1791 constitution, â€Å"the person of the king is inviolable and sacred: his only title is king of the French† (Paine,107), there was no need for the National Concetion to condemn the king for reasonable treasonous actions. Indeed, it’s only a vigorous challenge of royal inviolability that followed the King’s flight to Varannes. It was the work of the convections for the king to be tried by the legislature. The charges appear to have a constitutional base because the king should maintain and follow the constitution of the land. It is for this reason that the Convection places a trial against the king. However, though the charges are based on the constitution the Convection has divergence arguments about the King’s trial and have no prove that the King has committed all the crime that has been imputed to him. Moreover, the inviolability issue that was imputed on the King was by no means be confined to discus sion at the tribune of the Convection. For example, Jacques Necker acknowledges that the Convection has no power to try the King for inviolability. He argues that â€Å"The king cannot be tried as a particular and that he had not violated any constitutional laws†. Moreover, â€Å"He buttressed royal inviolability with historical references† (Paine, 110), noting that the kings could not in either way be tried by their aristocracies neither by partial men, and declared the constitutional doctrine both necessary and just. Likewise, an an anonymous pamphleteer providedandeceptive rarity for the King trial.            Moreover, the only claim that is seen is the issue about inviolability whereby the report from the Legislative body was just a question about whether Louisxvi was judgeable for the crimes he was imputed to have committed. As a result, the king was suspended by the Assembly whereby the Convection was given the mandate to elect the sovereign will. This affected the denial of noble inviolability, which seem as if it never existed. Likewise, the decision to focus consideration only on the article one of the committee report is a clear indication that Louis could not have been convicted because the convectionels were the one pushing for his conviction through attacking the â€Å"stupid dogma of inviolability†. Therefore, though there was no need for a trial against Louis XVI because he was already accused and condemn by the people, I do not agree that his condemnation was justified. It was more of a political condemnation (Paine,119). Upon reading, â€Å"The Execution of Louis XVI† as seen by Henry Edgeworth de Firmont, does the king appear brave, frightened or insolent on the way to his execution?            From the execution scene, the king appears brave on the way to his execution. The king seems to understand his mistakes. It might be the condemnation of the people that has forced the king to have extra courage because he is no longer needed in the society. It is the people who have convicted him to death and nothing he can do to go against their will. As we can see as soon as the king descended from the carriage, three executioners surround the king and wished him to take off his coat and though he repulse them, he does it with dignity and took it off himself. These are signs of a brave person.            The king also shows his bravery whereby when the executioners try to tie him, he abruptly withdraws his hands without fear, and the situation seems to exceed the executioners. He also responded in an indignant tone. Nevertheless, the king is also frightened of what he will undergo. He knows very well he must be executed. As we can see, his eyes are filled with a sorrowing look that turn to the executioners maybe to seek them to save him. His courage had started to weaken by the pain he seemed to take. According to the king, he is dying of innocent of all the crimes he has been imputed upon him. It might be true considering that he knows very sure the decision of the people is final and he has to face the death sentence. He therefore says in a frightened tone, â€Å"I pardon the authors of my death, and pray God that the blood you are about to shed will never fall upon France†. Invention of Gatsby :: essays research papers

The Invention of Jay Gatsby â€Å"It was a testimony to the romantic speculation that he inspired that there were whispers about him from those who had found little that is was necessary to whisper about in this world.† (48) States the narrator, illustrating the attractiveness to attention and gossip of a party host. The quote comments on a conversation of two woman gossiping about the mysterious host named Gatsby. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s book The Great Gatsby, a young man’s life and character is invented by his peers and colleagues, and by his own personal dream. When the reader first meets Jay Gatsby, he is portrayed as a private man who frequently threw lavish parties. Many of these parties consisted of people who were unaware of who Gatsby was. Because of his private nature many of his guests began to make assumptions about his past. The rumors created established an outlandish persona of Gatsby. Each rumor accumulated and grew until a rumor of Gatsby being a murder accrued. Rumors and stories alone created an exciting yet still mysterious character. A few of his guest become suspicious of his profligate but enigmatic style. Describing how unusual Gatsby’s kindness was for replacing a gown that a woman had ripped at one of this parties, a guest states; â€Å"There is something funny about a fellow that’ll do something like that. He doesn’t want any trouble with anybody.† (48) Though it was not Gatsby who had ripped the dress, he felt permitted to replacing it. Gatsby might not know all this guests, but he is com mitted to insuring they have a good time. This uncommon benevolence brings a sense of conspiracy and suspicion. However this guise of Gatsby was created through rumors and gossip but not without the aid of the character Gatsby portrayed for himself. Gatsby’s world appeared to resemble the ideal life. With a large house, expensive cars, and outlandish parties, Gatsby depicted the American dream. This life of luxury and the man known as Jay Gatsby was created from a dream of a young man named James Gats. Elucidating Gatsby’s dream the narrator states: â€Å"The truth was that Jay Gatsby, of West Egg, Long Island, sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. He was a son of God-a phrase which, if it means anything, means just that-and he must be about His Father’s Business, the service of a vast, vulgar and meretricious beauty. Beowulf Movie Critic

Beowulf Movie Critic Do you envision a strong female role or a male role as your hero? In my opinion the Beowulf movie was a thumbs up, due to Angelina Jolie’s use of seduction and female wiles. Angelina is a critical character who drives the plot. In the movie, her character of Grendel’s mother overshadows Beowulf‘s character as a hero. This is in drastic contrast to the original poem ‘Beowulf’ because in the original, women were not valued and they had no important role. Grendel’s mother differs from the original, in three aspects; character, plot and theme. The difference between the characters from the original Beowulf poem to the movie is vast. Grendel’s mother in the movie was beautiful, for example ‘Beowulf’ Movie Review says, â€Å"The link between the early battles of a young hero and his fatal confrontation with the dragon as an aging king is his temptation by the monster’s mother who dangles wealth, power a nd sexual favors before his bedazzled eyes,† the writer reminds us of the beauty she portrays. In the poem readers are led to believe she looks monstrous; it is said that the warriors from Herot thought she looked like Grendel and also Beowulf is not one bit attracted to her.In the poem Grendel’s mother is a violent being who creates conflicts to avenge her son; she eats people and kills many of Hrothgar’s men. In the movie Angelina Jolie lures Beowulf with her sexuality and beauty; her strategy is seduction, as for in the poem Grendel’s mother is a monster who attacks Beowulf and drags him into the cave where they engage in combat; her strategy is direct attack. In my opinion the movie Beowulf was successful, whereas the poem was not. The role played as Grendel’s mother was more thought out.Her strategy was a wise one because not only did she live, but she is free to lure more men into her cave, where she will pursue to seduce and sin. Grendel†™s mother changes the plot from beginning to end. If she had never seduced the king in the movie, then there would have never been the character Grendel. Without Grendel, Beowulf would have no reason to travel to Denmark on behalf of King Hrothgar’s request. King Hrothgar was sick and tired of Grendel savaging at night; he surmised Beowulf would save his kingdom.Grendel’s mother creates all conflict, for example she allures Beowulf knowing that lust was his weakness; where in the original ‘Beowulf’ she is an ugly lake monster with dragon claws, a long snout, yellow feathers, red eyes, a pale face and since Beowulf is not attracted, he defeats her. In the movie Grendel’s mother gives birth to a dragon, but this monster is also son of Beowulf. The plot was changed once again because in the poem the dragon was not Beowulf’s son and if it weren’t for Grendel’s mother’s promise to Beowulf, he would have not become king of He rot and would have not fallen in love with the queen. He chose to kill his evil son to save his love, the queen and his mistress. In the movie every victory was glorious. Each battle won is sung and celebrated. People remember you from your battles. In ‘Beowulf’ the poem, the theme is complete opposite. Christian element is used; battle is bad, and one was not known for battles, but how honest and faithful you were throughout your life. Beowulf’s morals were very different in the movie, because he was not using the Christian element, but was deceitful and unfaithful; for example, he lies about his battles and betrays the kingdom by fornicating with Grendel’s mother.Whereas in the poem he never did such thing. Contrary to the original Beowulf, the new film wants us to understand and humanize our monster. The changes of theme from story to movie give Beowulf a more modern feel. The movie was a real life depiction of the poem, which was a fantasy. In real life there is reality like sin. The movie is like a metaphor to the poem; we picture Grendel’s mother as an ugly creature, but she was not ugly; she was a monster within but not on the outside. ?

Final Worldview Paper

Everyone has a different worldview whether it is his or her religion or law. However, just because we listen and read about other religions does not mean we follow and believe them. I will add that a worldview helps me to understand life and reality in different parts of the world. People need to have a worldview to understand their purpose in life. Questions and Answers from my Own Worldview Perspective Who is God and what are His Characteristics? Christians believe that God created the universe and all within. He is the almighty. We are welcomed into a relationship with Him so that we will get to now Him personally, and intimately. â€Å"Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understand and knows me, that am Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,† declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 9:23,24) What is a Human Being and what Happens When One Dies? The scripture reads that God created man and woman in the image of Him.When He created us, he gave us a soul and spirit. Our body exists as a shell; our soul is our inner feelings such as our emotions. The spirit is our mind, where we hear the whisper of God leading us in the right directions of our life. Believe that when we die the body is returned to the earth and our soul continues to live on with God. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. (Ecclesiastic 12:7) What is the Nature of the Universe? Christians know that God created the universe according to His will. Now my worldview affects everything I believe about God, marriage, education and he way we raised our children. He created all that is and all that will be forever in the universe. No matter what other views exist, Christians know that God created the Heaven and the earth, which is the universe. God allows His children t o see His creations according to his Word and it is up to Christians to have a relationship with Him (Salesladies, 2013). How do You Know What You Know? How do you Know what is True? While growing up my grandparents taught me the family right from wrong.I also know what I know by attending church, listening to the pastor, and reading the Bible. This class has taught me about worldviews had never heard of before. It also taught me different ways to understand and research the Bible. I know what I know because God created me to be all I can be and to follow my dreams by practicing the power of positive direction Sakes, 2008). This is how know what I know. What is Right and Wrong or How can We Know there is a Right from Wrong? Knowing right and wrong should not be an issue for any Christian. Christians know that the Word is right and that there is no other alternative.Knowing that you have a healthy relationship with God is right enough for e. People can listen to who and whatever they want to receive the Word, but until they open the Holy Bible and receive it for themselves, they will not know the difference (Wright, 2004). Is Life Pointless or is there Purpose? I believe that God created everything and everyone for His purpose. I also believe Christians given this gift of love to serve only Him for His purposes. With this said all of Gods' children are here for a reason, some find their reason sooner than others do, but as long as I believe and trust in Him will find my way in life.I believe that all things God works for good with those who love Him, those whom he has called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28) What Core Commitments are Consistent with my Worldview? Impact on My Life? The core commitments and consistencies in my life consist of my spiritual life, family, and education. These are the areas in my life try to keep consistent. Being a consistent person really helps because not only do I have to pay attention to my education I have to pay attenti on to my sons' as well. Do my best to keep Christ at the forefront or our life.Making this decision is meeting I try to day everyday (Jakes, 2008) My Worldview Compared to the Christian Worldview I try to take time from each day to read His word so that can continue my relationship with Him. Also try to help my family live by His word also, by sharing what have learned. There are times when I may find myself drifting away from the Word. That is when I have a little talk with Jesus. Because I know, He will keep me on the path to righteousness. Therefore, I really believe my worldview is one of a Christian worldview. Reflecting on My Worldview How does my Worldview Perform in the Tests of Worldviews?Any Christian, who knows God, knows that He is the measure of all things. In addition, we should be God-centered He is the reason why we are here today and the reason why we believe in His laws. Everyone seems to have his or her own worldview about the universe. A Christian worldview is al l know and am happy for that experience. As for the other worldviews, I cannot put myself in the position to judge them Sakes, 2008). How does my Worldview affect my Thoughts and Actions? During this class, found that my Christian worldview affects my thoughts and my actions.I know that I am whom I am because of Him and I do my est. to serve Him by being patient and kind to others, because I want others to be kind to me. I also do my best to listen to the whisper in my soul as I know it is Him talking and leading me in the right direction as make decisions during the day and night. He is the keeper of my heart and know this (Jakes, 2008). How has my Worldview Changed over the Course of this Class? My worldview advanced while in this class. This class was not as difficult as I thought once I got over the anxious feeling. Enjoyed connecting the scriptures together and summarizing the passages. There Was a lot Of reading, but I understood the questions better once read the information. I must say that learned more in this class about the Bible than had ever known and I am thankful for those seven weeks of reading, writing, and discussions. This class has helped me understand that I do have a worldview and that it is not just an opinion (Wright, 2004). Conclusion This essay has helped me open my eyes to my own worldview. First, I described the worldview assumptions as it applied to my life and me. Several questions were answered as they related to my worldview.

Brief history of film essays

Brief history of film essays The great movie event of 1972 was The Godfather, the top-grossing film of the year and possibly of all time. In a nation apparently worried about violence in motion pictures, on television, and in its streets, the popularity of The Godfather made ironic commentary on American attitudes and values. The year began with angry outcries against the blood and gore of A Clockwork Orange and Straw Dogs, released in December, 1971; and the publication in March of the Surgeon-General's Report on Televised Violence further upset the public. Nevertheless, Americans paid well over $125 million to witness a three-hour testimony to the glories of gangsterdom. Concerned chiefly with power struggles among rival gangland "families," which are, implicitly, units of the "Mafia" or "Cosa Nostra," The Godfather has two central themes: first, in the words of Balzac, that "Behind every great fortune there is a crime," and second, that beneath the bravado and butchery, gangsters are warm and loving human beings, good friends, good husbands, good fathers, and good sons. The public did not complain about the brutality of the film; significantly, the cruelty is not sex-linked as in Clockwork Orange and Straw Dogs. Nor did the community of critics, who are often hostile to big, expensive movies ( The Godfather cost $6 million to produce). They praised the film highly, and gave kudos to all concerned director Francis Ford Coppola; scenarists Coppola and Mario Puzo, who wrote the best-selling novel on which the film is based; and stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. New Direction in Film Musicals. The Godfather was not 1972's only blockbuster. Cabaret, an adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway musical of 1971, showed a domestic gross of more than $20 million. Liza Minnelli, daughter of film director Vincente Minnelli and the late Judy Garland, and evidently heir to her mother's charismatic gifts as a performer, stars in the film. The film was based on Christo...

Looking Back at Rodney King and the L.A. Riots

Looking Back at Rodney King and the L.A. Riots Rodney King became a household name after images surfaced of him taking a life-threatening beating by four white police officers from the Los Angeles police department in 1992. After the four police officers were acquitted by a jury,  a violent uprising  broke out in Los Angeles, lasting over five days, and leaving more than 50 people dead and thousands injured. A Brutal beating On March 3, 1991, 25-year-old Rodney King was leaving an event by car with his friends when a police car on his tail motivated him to attempt to flee at 100 miles per hour. According to Kings account, he kept driving instead of pulling over because he was violating the terms of his parole- from a prior robbery- by drinking and he wanted to avoid trouble with the police. Instead, he kept driving and triggered a high-speed chase that ended when he pulled over. As King stepped out of the vehicle with his hands up police instructed him to get on the ground and they began beating him with their batons. Between four officers, King was struck at least 50 times and received at least 11 fractures. Nearly beaten to death, King was rushed to the nearest hospital where doctors operated on him for five hours.  Ã‚   Thankfully for King, a bystander named George Holiday had been overlooking the balcony during the brutal beating and recorded  the incident. The next day, Holiday took the footage to the local television station. The outrage and backlash from the officers actions was so significant that Rodney King was released from the hospital four days later  with no official charges filed against him. Conviction On March 15, 1991, Sergeant Stacey Koon and officers Laurence Michael Powell, Timothy Wind, and Theodore Briseno were indicted by a Los Angeles grand jury in connection with the beating. A little more than two months later, the grand jury decided not to indict the 17 officers who were there at the time of King’s beating but did nothing. The four officers accused of beating King were acquitted on April 29,1992. A violent uprising  began in South Central Los Angeles. An truck driver, uninvolved in King’s case, was beaten and the footage was caught on videotape by a passing helicopter. The mayor declared a state of emergency and the governor made a request for the National Guard to assist law enforcement officials. During that time 1,100 Marines, 600 Army soldiers, and 6,500 National Guard troops patrolled the streets of Los Angeles. Heartbroken and feeling responsible for the surrounding chaos, Rodney King, fighting back tears, made a public statement and recited the following famous lines: People, I just want to say, can we all get along?† on May 1, 1992. Small Victories The nation waited in fear of future riots as the trial for the four officers began. Less than two months later, two of the officers- Koon and Powell- were found guilty by a federal jury for having violated King’s civil rights. According to  news  reports, â€Å"U.S. District Court Judge John Davies sentences both Sergeant Stacey Koon and Officer Laurence Powell to 30 months in prison for violating Kings civil rights. Powell is found guilty of violating Kings constitutional right to be free from an arrest made with ‘unreasonable force.’ Ranking officer Koon is convicted of permitting the civil rights violation to occur.† Sadly for King, struggles with alcoholism and drug use led to further negative interactions with the law. In 2004,  was arrested after a domestic dispute and later plead guilty to driving under the influence. In  2007  he was found drunk with non-threatening gunshot wounds. In recent years, Rodney King has given several personal interviews including with CNN and Oprah.  On June 18, 2012, his fiancee Cynthia Kelley, a juror in his trial many years prior, found him at the bottom of his swimming pool. He was pronounced  dead  at the hospital. A Catalyst for Change Rodney Kings horrific experience with the Los Angeles Police Department was horrific helped to illuminate some of the myriad problems with police brutality. Images of the beating and the uprising  that followed live on in infamy as a symbol of the troubled relationship between police and the Black community.

Community outreach project Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Community outreach project - Essay Example The mission of initiating a new service is to evaluate community-based library outreach programs using various components that are paired with relevant alternative strategies. In order to achieve its mission, there are various strategies that have to put into consideration to facilitate the process of community outreach program in the field of nursing. However, this paper intend to discuss two of those strategies and these encompasses directional strategy and market strategy. From research, a directional strategy is frequently developed focusing on different components such as, progress, steadiness, as well as cost cutting (Addis & Gamble, 2004). Therefore, for an organization intending to introduce a new service for patients, before establishing a directional strategy, it is vital to define the main objective of such an action. For instance, the main intention of this new service is to increase profits and cut costs at the same time, while improving the lives of patients through the community outreach program. By identifying the objective of introducing the new service, it becomes easier to choose the best type of directional strategy that suits the outreach program (Kreuter, Lezin & Young, 2000). For example, by using cost-cutting strategy, it will be easy to carry out rationalizations, eradicating particular products from the line before introducing the new one, or even file for impoverishment or selling out. The significance of a directional strategy is to play as a control to direct an organization through both peaceful and unsettled times (Berwick, 2003). Directional strategy helps in maintaining the objective of the new service to be introduced in the market; it also stabilizes and helps in the expansion of profits as well as makes it possible for the business to move forward with its activities without losing tract of the intended project. The key objective of a directional strategy is to keep the business focused in the planned manner probable while pr oceeding to expand both returns and services provided to patients in the community outreach program. In most cases, directional strategies enable the introduction or the initiation of the new service to develop in one of the two paths. These include either perpendicular or straight expansion. In this case, vertical expansion implies that introducing the new service will focus on present clients and clients increase their spending on the new service or establishing new clients with the new service. On the other hand, horizontal expansion encompasses pursuing new customers and those clients in the immediate location to enjoy the new service that is being offered. It also involves enlarging the outreach to other areas in order to expand the client base of the new service. Another strategy that will be used in this process includes the market strategy. As it is known, a strategy is always a long-term plan that is established to attain particular objectives. Thus, a market strategy is a plan developed to attain marketing goals for the new service intended to be introduced in the nursing field (Whitney, Dutcher& Keselman, 2013). For instance, marketing goal may be to initiate a new service by appreciating clients or patients. The strategic plan thus is the complete planning that includes marketing research, and then establishing a marketing mix to appreciate clients. It is essential for every business or organization

A Key Concept in Information Systems Term Paper

A Key Concept in Information Systems - Term Paper Example Information technology is also a fundamental component of information systems. Technologies such as the internet, artificial intelligence among others are critical in helping humans to perform activities and tasks that are difficult and tiring for humans such as handling huge volumes of data and information, accurately controlling simultaneous processes and performing complex calculations (Stair & Reynolds, 2011). Over the past decade, information systems have become an integral part of any organization or business. It plays a fundamental role in determining the daily operations and sustainability of the business or organization in the future. Consequently, it has become a critical aspect of information systems management to identify critical issues that affect the operation and use of information systems (Peltier, 2013). The several concerns include personal, legal, ethical and organizational issues that result from the use of information systems. The development of this concept was mainly occasioned by the increased compromise of confidentiality, integrity, completeness and accuracy of data and information that is stored in the information systems. Activities such as e-mails, malware, freeware and shareware, phishing, piracy, hacking among other threats are some of the common issues affecting the information systems all over the world. Consequently, a key concept in information systems is e nsuring privacy, confidentiality, accuracy and completeness through information system security (Peltier, 2013). Information systems are used in major government agencies, public institutions such as health facilities and also in the private sector for different purposes. With the increasing threats to information systems from external and internal sources, these organizations must ensure availability or reliable information security plans that address personal users of the systems, the

Intellectual Skills Practical Skills And Transferable Skills Education Essay

Intellectual Skills Practical Skills And Transferable Skills Education Essay My first impression of this course was glad where I has chance to find out how the process of research and how to write the research report. As part of that, this course also has mention information system where I can more understand how the information system can support business activities and the future of information technology. The aim of this program is reflecting on the application of research approaches and communicating research finding in a suitable format for dissemination. Because of that, among the course I learning how to categories sources of information, how source of information usage in research, how IT contribution can enhance business performance and awareness of the range and variety of the technologies that support organisations. Moreover, this course also let me to practice intellectual skills, practical skills and transferable skills. For intellectual skills include how to select the suitable topic for investigation, appreciate its relationship which current development in IT, define clear research objectives, evaluate the results of a literature survey and understand system approach to organizations is considerable part for doing reaching. Meanwhile, this module let me to experience how to work effectively as part of team and schedule an effective study plan where systematically organize and interpret data obtained during group assignment and undertake self directed study. Furthermore, this course also let me practice to produce an effective visual presentation. Overall, the objective of this program is transfer the theoretical and skills to real world situations where I can apply it in the future. Main Report The coursework are split into two parts, the first part is group research and presentation. Before start the coursework, we try to plan how the group performed whether whole class in single group or separate in small group. Unfortunately our course modulator decides to discrete our class into three teams. Thus I feel that anxiety which team needs to joint because fearful to join the worst team has poor leader where it make my journey of this group project bitterer. This is where I found that the teamwork plays and leader as important elements for success the project. Team work is a group of individuals working together to achieve a common goal which is complete our group assignment. While, team leader is key person in the team where he/she needs to known well the project future direction, responsibility, well planning, attends team member and give a clear cut intrusion to the team member. Therefore leader performance is important, it will affect whole teams move further or reduce bac k. After few discussions on centre, finally I choose to join Miss Teo team where our team consists of me and Miss Teo only. If has any project in the future, I will not disquiet that need to select which group to join the important is what role you play in the team. If you are team leader need to responsibility and give clear-cut intrusion and attend to team member. If as a team member, need to coordinate with other team member and team leader. The week after finalize group member, we try to carry forward to following question which is select the topic of research of our team. Before we start, our class is worn off by course modulator that we have limited time to carry out research. Meanwhile I insight that the important of time management. Time management is range of tools, skill and techniques to use manage the time accomplishing the project. We distributed the workload among ourselves and set a time frame for completion. Group members were to adhere to the time frame stipulated. This is how we manage to complete a group assignment and presentation, with much hidden work behind our success. Meantime, our team is discussing the topic of the research. After a few short online discussions, our team generally fixates telehealth will be our topic of assignment. Immediately our team facing another question where telehealth is a big topic, isnt our team able to handle this kind of big research in short duration? If not, what is the next topic we need to look it, isnt subtopic of telehealth like telemedicine, home telehealth or ehealth or different topic? These kinds of questions keep come disturb us, among team member also has different argument about the topic and storming stages also come to join our team. Because of that, our team has a lot of online discussion and facing to facing meeting. But unfortunately our team also forces to invite our course modulator to join to settle down our problem. But luckily our team very hastily to say goodbye to storming where we has common idea to decide EHR in Alberta, Canada as our topic. Alberta is the first province in Canada carry out telehealth and EHR. At this moment, I discover that effective listening, take note, peer assessment and select a suitable topic is important for beginning of research process. Previously I thought select topic is easy job where pick up one topic and do research, but now I release that there is a lot of more involved. Next time when team member who coming out an idea/advice or suggestion, another member need careful listening, takes note and try to adopt it. It will reduce the storming stages and less conflict among the team. For the following week, we start do to research for EHR in Alberta. All related information for this assignment base on internet. On the internet, we can search a lot of information about the EHR. Then another problem prompt out is how the source of information will be categories? After categories it how the information usage for JRP? Therefore we try to analysis the information we have and summaries it into a point forms. For the time being, I aware that do the research has their rues of process and approach. Next time will more careful about that. In addition, our classes also establish a group called dynamic group where this group form to share information and discuss the problem facing each of the team. This group has a discussion every saturday on centre. The first mission of this dynamic group is finalizing the format of all report. In the question paper/ guideline give untrustworthy instruction for the format report. Every one of us afraid uses wrong type of format, hence we bring up this topic to group meeting discussion to discuss we need to follow which type of format. Furthermore, the chair of meeting is take turn by all members. It is a good time to learn and practice to be leader. Chair a meeting is a not easy job where need to prepare the agenda and do some homework. After we have sufficient information, then we start to write JRP. On start we have reference sample reference paper to see the structure of research paper and style of writing the research paper. Writing a research paper is not an easy job, where the all the part needs to base on the real fact to explanation. Although I not the editor, but we has much online discussion to discuss all part . At last the first JRP draft is completed, and then we start analysis and double check whether our JRP paper has miss out any point or not. We found that our JRP structure most like a case studies instance a proper research format. Then we look for our course modulator to discuss this issue and our course modulator said that this is the right way. Before that I think that before writing research paper, the editor need to understand the background and detail of the topic only. But now I have different option where the editor need to familiar the research process, approach, method and philosophy. One of them no follow, the whole research paper will be out. In the part of that, I feel the changing is literature review section. We need write the finding has done by previous research paper put at that section. We has try use the original world in previous research paper paste it into this section then will h as plagiarism. Then we found a technique to apply it. This a good lesson for me, next time when reach at this section we will more careful analysis how previous research paper. After few review and online discussion our team were finalize the JRP paper and continue doing the presentation slides. Following the next week, we doing group presentation slides. Then we separate the first few slides are done by me while other will do by Miss Teo. This is my first time to summaries the research paper to presentation slides. At the time, I feel fearful and strain because no idea how to summary become a slide. Then I start search from Internet how to summaries it for my further understanding and that time our team has few discussions. I think is a good chance let me try and learning how to prepare an effective presentation slides. It will help me a lot for future when has a presentation. After we complete the slides, we try to add in a word we need to present. Before the due date of presentation, we try to rehearse the group presentation and individual presentation. But we still no finalize the presentation slides. On that day, all team are trying participating to present their slides, while other will listen and give suggestion or advice after they present. Firstly come out to present my slides I feel scare. At the time, my mind is blank just read what has in the slides and quickly to complete it. I know that the problem what facing. Hope in next time present the slides I will more confidence and slowly to explain the slides. The next mistake I think I need to improve is answer Conclusion Overall I really enjoyed this group assignment where I glad that this group assignment gives me a great learning experience to do research and work as group. Besides that this assignment fit perfectly where I could apply what I learned in class to a real-world situation. Many classes teach you a bunch of stuff but never give you the opportunity to see it for yourself. For instance, Ive learned so much about forces and failures on beams, but have never seen it in real life. Other classes teach you things, but you never use it until years later, at which time you have forgotten some, if not all of it. I was able to take what I learned each week in class and use it to help me with the project. I think this quick application of the principles allows for greater development as a leader. I think that this course to better prepare me as a future leader. I will be able to use what I have learned now and years in the future. I can also use our group development as an example when Im in future groups and build upon the successes and learn from the failures. This project have made a big impact for me and the rest of my group member, hopefully we will be able to overcome these glitches in future project.
